You Know You Want This: Custom Monogram Succulent Wreath

Back in the day, I was pretty crafty. You know, before I started the ultimate craft of making a baby. Caleb and I would do some pretty awesome things around the house. I was very proud of us. Well, now we have a really good excuse to put our craftiness to use because Melinda Ann of Finding Sunday and her husband Nick, are fundraising to support their upcoming adoption. Caleb and I couldn’t be happier to contribute to such an awesome cause! Tonight they we will be hosting a dinner and silent auction, it’s going to be so fun, I can’t wait! Here’s what we will be contributing…

The lucky winner will have their own custom monogram succulent wreath! These are a lot of work but they are so fun to have. I’m hoping that it will bring in a good amount of cash for their adoption. The succulents alone cost about $50 and it also takes a lot of time to make. Here’s a horrible tutorial to give you an idea of what it entails…

Print-out the desired letter and then trace it onto particle board.

Cut-ou the letter using a special saw (you'll have to ask Caleb what it's called).

Using wire cutters, cut-out the letter from sturdy chicken wire.

Now prepare the succulents! It's best to use chicks n' hens. Make sure the soil is loose around the roots.

Now stuff the wire wreath with moss and soil. Then begin inserting the succulents very carefully using a pencil as your guide. You may have to cut bigger holes for some of them to fit. Then stuff moss around them to secure them into the wire.

Begin filing the succulents in starting at the edges. Once it's filled, make sure to water it. Now step back and enjoy!! You did it!

I know that’s not the best tutorial but hey, it’s the best I could do with pictures that I took over two years ago! If you don’t feel like putting all of that work into it, head on over to Finding Sunday and maybe we can find a way for you to place a bid at the Silent Auction tonight (6/28/2013). Thanks for visiting and Happy Friday!
