Alright everyone, thank you for your prayers! Here’s the lowdown on our vaccination appointment from yesterday with Dr. Gorab, who was awesome. She was totally willing to do the alternative vaccination schedule with us. I don’t have a pic of it, thank goodness, but I totally broke-down and started crying before we even got to the appointment. We decided to stop and pray for our little guy before going in. I’m so glad Caleb was with me!
Love it when doctors have separate well & sick waiting rooms!
Luca all swaddled-up before he gets his vaccinations. We learned that Tylenol can weaken the effectiveness of the vaccines so we tried “The Happiest Baby on the Block” 5 S’s instead.
The nurse started with Rotavirus, which is orally administered. Then on to the DTap shot…
This isn’t Luca, but this is what he looked like when they stuck the needle in for DTap… it was horrible. (Oh yeah, and his mouth was open but no sound was coming out… ugh) Caleb picked him up right away and started bouncing him while I said comforting words and brought out this guy for an assist…
We call him “The Sleep Monkey,” he has miraculous calming powers and totally helped Luca calm down after his shot.
Red-eyed and tired from crying.
- I should buy stock in this stuff! It helped Luca’s upset tummy later that night.

Us Crunchy Folk lube it up with coconut oil =). Turns out he had a mild temperature but nothing to be worried about.

The next day, there’s a little swelling but no redness. I should mention that the night was rough, Luca was whimpering a lot and Caleb and I were both restless worrying about him and checking to make sure his temperature wasn’t getting worse.

Our little Monkey is still cheerful but he does have some congestion and a cough… not to mention unusually LARGE poopy diapers! But overall, I think his little body is just fighting-off the antigens from the vaccines and he’ll be just fine =)

This was a great one Jaclyn – EVERY mother can relate! Love, Mom

Early childhood is pretty traumatic stuff – surprising sounds and sights, body parts that aren’t under your control, getting poked with sharp things, and being completely helpless through it all… but I love that waiting room picture
Babies take these things in stride.
